One man and one woman, both 50s-70s:
BARI: Single woman, widowed, age 50s-70s, neighbor of Kevin. Quirky, extroverted and leaning towards flamboyant. She's become fearful from weeks of sheltering-in-place. She yearns for in-person connection.
KEVIN: Single man, widowed, age 50-70s, reclusive curmudgeon, who finds most people annoying. Neighbor of Bari. He's comfortable being alone and enjoys being contrary. Unconsciously, he now longs for in-person social contact, but he's too invested in his "introvert identity" to admit this to Bari or himself.
All auditions will be on Zoom. Once you sign up for a 15 min. slot, you will be sent a zoom link and sides to review. Ideally, we will be pairing the characters for the audition slots however, you may end up reading with an assistant.

We are still reading people for these roles past the dates listed on previous audition notices.Twelfth Night O Lo Que Quieras is continuing to look for actors for the roles of Sebastian and Ensemble in this wonderful show. Due to the year-delay caused by the ongoing COVID pandemic, not every performer who signed on to work last year has been able to do so in 2021. While this is completely understandable, it does leave us in a position of needing to fill in their roles as soon as possible.
Auditionees may choose to audition over Zoom or In-person. In either case, please contact the Festival Stage Manager, Donna Marie Barra (dmb0857@aol.com) to schedule your appointment.
Please send via email a headshot (or a selfie or photo of yourself from the shoulders up) and resume (or short description of your experience with performing). Ms. Barra will send you sides (scenes or monologue from the play) to prepare after you schedule your audition.
If you are auditioning for Twelfth Night O Lo Que Quieras, you may also choose to perform a poem of your choice (English or Spanish). If you play an instrument, please have something prepared to play. The directors are seeking men, women, and gender nonconforming actors ages 15-60. Actors of the Global Majority (BIPOC) are especially encouraged to audition.
Roles available:

King Lear by William Shakespeare
Directed by Debi Kierst
As You Like It by William Shakespeare
Directed by Julia Thudium
Performances: August 5, 2022 through September 3, 2022
Director's Description of King Lear.
King Lear has ruled for many years. As age begins to overtake him, he decides to divide his kingdom among his children, living out his days without the burden of ruling a kingdom. A proud man, he allows vanity to cloud his judgment, believing that he can relinquish the crown, but enjoy the same authority and respect he has always known. He misjudges his daughters completely, and as a result, the kingdom is thrust into chaos and the king into madness. The play is about families—about fathers and daughters, fathers and sons, sisters and their husbands and lovers, brothers natural and unnatural. Ordinary jealousies, demands for love, sibling rivalries, desire for money and power, and petty cruelties are all taken to the extreme. It has been considered by many to be Shakespeare's crowning artistic achievement.
Director's Description of As You Like It.
The play is being set in in its own time, Arden time. In this version, the mythical forest of Arden is where magic reigns and impossible things happen every day. This show will be filled with music and movement, laughter and most especially joy, joy for the audience and joy for the players. This show will have a lean script and a tight ensemble. If you're not onstage speaking your lines, you may be onstage being a sheep, a musician or a fairy. Anything is possible! We are looking for actors and actor/musicians who want to be in the room, who are willing to try anything and partner with me to create a joyous, raucous festival of a production. To hear the kind of music and fun I'm talking about, listen to Natalie MacMasters "David's Jig" and "Mother Nature".
The role of King Lear has been cast. All other roles are open. Actors of all ages are welcome. Actor/musicians will be needed for As You Like It.
What to Bring/Prepare
Please prepare a monologue of up to two (2) minutes from a play by Shakespeare. You may, but are not required to, choose a monologue from King Lear or As You Like It. We are interested in your ability to speak the text, and make choices with it. If you do not have a piece prepared at the audition, sides will be provided but prepared monologues are referred.

Trevor by Nick Jones
Directed by Pete Parkin
Inspired by true events, Trevor is a subversive comedy about fame, success, and the lies we tell ourselves in order to keep people from taking away an erratic, 200-pound chimpanzee. At the center of this hilarious and heart-wrenching play are two individuals fighting against a world unable to understand their love: Trevor, a chimpanzee who once performed in commercials with the likes of Morgan Fairchild, and his owner Sandra, who swears he would never hurt a fly...at least not on purpose. A moving exploration of family, flawed communication, and humor. It explores central questions about the keeping of animals in captivity, the expectations placed on us by others, whether 'normal' equates to 'right,' the nature of love, the fear of inadequacy. It is deep and masterful piece of theatre from a skilled writer. The trick of wrapping serious questions in sugar coated comedy is not new, but rarely has a writer handled it better than Nick Jones.
The play has a planned live opening on April 22, 2022 for a 3 week run.
The chimpanzee characters will not be in monkey suits. They must be capable of excellent physical acting. All actors must be fully vaccinated.

This story-theatre presentation uses a number of different stories and poetry—and historical portraits of celebrations from around the world—in a delightful production that celebrates the winter and its holidays. Great for the entire family and matinee performances on Saturday afternoons at 2 p.m.!
Director Ford says, "I'm delighted to work with this exceptional cast as they create new versions of these old tales. The production will be a joyful, funny and warm addition to every audience member's holiday experience"

Lava revolves around a catastrophic event and its effect on survivors. It has humor, warmth and healing. Kendra Rickert is a LA-trained, Albuquerque-based director.
The play explores the difference between being tangibly sad due to the loss of a loved one as opposed to a general sadness that one feels as a result of all the massive problems occurring in the world. Why are some people able to express why they are sad while others can't and is one more valid than the other? How, as friends, as family, and as a community can we support each other in our times of grief? What is it to be a true friend to someone who is suffering? Lava brings up all these questions in a way that will delight the audience with its humor and joy. I am impressed with how well James Fritz has been able to weave humor into such serious subject matter as collective world trauma.
Four actors capable of British accents are needed:
RACH (24-35 years old)
Rach is from a small English town. She is full of life and joy. Witty, compassionate, verbose, and caring, she may be overly idealistic but not without a cynical sense of humor. She has a strong desire to take care of people and she decides to help her coworker/friend/crush find his voice again, a task which becomes a great test of her patience.
Those auditioning for Rach prepare: Side #1. You might be asked to see these monologues as well: #2, #3, #4.
VIN (24-35 years old)
Vin is from a small English town. He has lost the use of his voice. It is unclear why. He is the center of the play, despite being unable to express himself verbally. Vin is on stage the whole time but only speaks in the last scene. He is clever, funny, cynical, sensitive, and feels crippled now without the use of his voice. He doesn’t trust that anyone will understand what he is going through, though he longs for connection.
Those auditioning for Vin prepare Jamie's monologue #8 or prepare a one minute contemporary monologue.
JAMIE (24-35 years old)
Jamie is a Londoner who was actually there when the asteroid hit and through this tragedy lost his mother. He is expressive and able to communicate his emotions with little effort. He connects with people easily and gains the sympathy of everyone around him. He is a great guitar player and singer which is another contrast to Vin's silence. He is charming, empathetic, and a little overbearing.
Those auditioning for Jamie prepare: Side #8. Also play something on guitar.
VICKY (45-65 years of age)
Vin's mom. Vicky struggles to help Vin deal with his anxiety condition and she tries to find ways to help him speak again. All the while, she struggles not to take her son's lack of communication personally. She is funny, charming, and empathetic.
Those auditioning for Vicky prepare Side #5. You might be asked to see these monologues as well: #6, #7.
