A work of audacity and ambition, written early in his career, McGuinness's drama folds history, psyche and sexuality within a complex structure. Contrasting the bluff bravado of the frontline with the truths of their brief time on leave, McGuiness exposes the fears, insecurities, loves and passions of a generation facing an early death.
