A classic of German romanticism, Mary Stuart deals with the relation between Mary and Elizabeth I, and centers on an imaginary meeting between them. These queens are two sides of one coin: Catholic and Protestant; lover and virgin. Mary is in prison, but the crown is also "a prison cell with jewels": it takes free will from the woman who wears it. Debi Kierst plays Mary and Kathleen Welker, Elizabeth the First. They are supported by a cast of many of Albuquerque's best actors - John Wylie, Gerry Sullivan, Ray Orley, Ludwig Puchmayer, Clifton Chadwick, Elisa River Stacy—who are joined by several exciting new faces—Julian Bonofiglio, Adamantios Miranda, and Steven Alkus.

Director Ponzlov says, "Politics never change—just the players of the game of power. These women are both controlled by the world of men around them, even as they battle each other for position. The saddest part is that they could have been powerful allies and loving sisters."
"Director Fredrick Ponzlov has done a great job of casting the main roles of Elizabeth (Kathleen Welker) and Mary (Debi Kierst).... Bonfiglio is a bit of a surprise as Mortimer. You can't take your eyes off this wild card of an actor." (- Rob Spiegel for Talkin' Broadway)
