Oleanna (Auditions)
March 31-April 1, 2018

Audition details...
Oleanna
By David Mamet
Directed by Marty Epstein
Audition times:
Saturday, March 31, 2018 10am-1pm
Sunday, April 1, 2018 6-8pm
Synopsis:

The two-person play premiered in 1992. Oleanna is about the power struggle between a university professor and one of his female students, who accuses him of sexual exploitation and, by doing so, spoils his chances of being accorded tenure. The play's title, taken from a folk song, refers to a 19th-century escapist vision of utopia. The Vortex production features Zoey Reese and, by special arrangement with Actors' Equity, Bob Jesser.

Director Epstein has directed over forty plays at the Vortex, the Adobe Theatre (A Crack in the Wall, You Can't Take It With You) and for West End Productions (Abigail's Party). He said, "For me, this play is a realistic depiction of sexual exploitation and its affect on all the parties to it. Is it misunderstandings? a misperception? The "he said, she said" nature of this play reflects the #MeToo movement and its victims will leave you wondering who was right and who was wrong?

Looking for:

Location:
The Vortex Theatre, 2900 Carlisle Blvd. NE, Albuquerque, NM 87110

Lysistrata: A Woman's Translation (Auditions)
December 8-9, 2018

Audition details...
Lysistrata: A Woman's Translation
By Drue Robinson
Directed by Bridget S. Dunne
Audition times:
Saturday, December 8, 2018 10am-2pm
Sunday, December 9, 2018 5-9pm
Synopsis:
Director Bridget S. Dunne (previously directed She Kills Monsters) says, "This play is funny, as you probably know. VERY funny. Underneath that humor, though, is a powerful story of regular women standing up for what they believe in and taking control of a situation that is simply unacceptable. These women aren't famous, they're not soldiers or politicians; they are wives, mothers, sisters, HUMANS, who havedecided they won't tolerate the waste and death that they've had to live with for too long. Lysistrata comes up with this plan, yes, but she can't do it alone. It takes a force of many to shake things up and make the men realize that there's more to life than war."
Looking for:

Characters are in their 20s and older. There is no upper age limit! Actors of color are especially encouraged to audition. Women will be considered for men's roles, however due to the nature of the script, some male characters must be cast with male or male-presenting actors.

It's likely you will read characters that you are not necessarily being considered for, so please don't be confused or disheartened! Most of the scenes have 5 or more characters in them, so you may be asked to read the same scene multiple times, in different roles.

This is a PG-13/R script, with a lot of cursing and strong sexual content. Actors cast in the Chorus will have very physical roles, including several comedic stage combat fights.

Location:
The Vortex Theatre, 2900 Carlisle Blvd. NE, Albuquerque, NM 87110
Format: Cold readings from the script. If you have a prepared comedic monologue, classical or contemporary, you may be asked to perform it. (If you don't have a monologue, it will not remove you from consideration.)
Show dates: February 8-March 3, 2019 - Fri-Sat 7:30pm; Sun 2pm
Rehearsals start: January 2019
